Led by Erin Morales (Sony Pictures Imageworks), Cometa School teaches the next and current generation of CFX Artists (the ones that make clothes and hair move dynamically on your favorite Hollywood animated characters).
With a fresh and lovely cosmic-style rebrand in their hands, Cometa tasked me with making a little animated spot to share to the world their new look.
Initial Styleframes
Given its technical nature, digital simulation can be an intimidating discipline. Cometa has the objective of removing that fear though a friendly approach. It was important to maintain a certain professional seriousness, but balance it out with a playful and human tone.
Cometa came with the idea of a rocket launch. Since the online school focuses on teaching 3 types of simulation techniques: clothes, hair and soft/hard objects; the idea of the rocket adventuring to 3 little planets, came to me right away (and yes, Mario Galaxy was a BIG inspiration for this one :) .
